Instrumental makes intelligent data-driven tools that help product companies find and fix issues on their assembly lines. We are working to improve the manufacturing of millions of things each day. We value diversity and our team is collaborative, supportive, transparent, and pun-tastic. Join us to modernize manufacturing!
What you'll do
Instrumental is seeking a Mechanical Engineer that will design, develop, and optimize our inspection stations deployed to factories around the world. We are looking for someone who can take new, highly technical ideas from rough prototype to robust, factory-ready implementation. Instrumental was founded so our customers can ship quality hardware products faster, and you, should you choose to join us, will deploy the hardware that makes that possible.
What you bring to the table:
Professional CAD experience, mechanical prototyping experience, and an eye for quality design
Experience prototyping with electromechanical systems, whether for research, professional, or personal application
The ability to communicate complex ideas effectively with technical and non-technical individuals
A passion for both engineering and science; a holistic system design sense with the ability to defend decisions around robustness and performance tradeoffs, coupled with the desire to dig deep into new sensors (e.g. imaging sensors)
What you can expect in the first month:
Learn the ins and outs of v1.0 of our product
Travel to a customer site to understand how Instrumental equipment integrates into a factory setting
- Work with Operations and the greater Product team to test, build, and deploy new stations
Success in three months will include:
Own the CAD, BOM, and assembly SOPs for Instrumental stations
Adapt existing station technology and design to meet new customer requirements
Research and prototype with new sensors for inclusion into Instrumental stations; quantify their performance and develop calibration routines suitable for a factory environment
Six months and beyond:
Design a new, scalable station architecture that accommodates new hardware and sensors
Develop at least one fully-developed, refreshed station design that incorporates new sensors (working with software team)
- Design and incorporate fixture automation to support faster production line speeds
All candidates must have an unrestricted right to work in the U.S.
Instrumental is an equal opportunity employer dedicated to an inclusive environment and a diverse workforce. Should you not meet all of the requirements mentioned above, you are still encouraged to apply.
